So what do these sizes really mean? The following is a child clothing size guide that may prove helpful to you as you determine your child’s actual clothing size. All children are unique, so take heed that this is just a general child clothing size guide for comparison of newborns and infant children.

Newborn child sizes generally adhere to the following descriptors: A newborn child weighing 7-10 lbs and 19”-22” in length would wear a 3 months, a newborn child weighing 10-14 lbs measuring 22”-24” in length would wear a 6 months, while a newborn child weighing 14-17 lbs and measuring 24”-26” would wear a 9 months size.

Infant child sizes include: 17-20 lbs measuring 26.5”-28” wears 12 months, and infant children weighing 20-24 lbs and 28”-30” wears 18 months, and finally an infant child weighing 24-27 lbs and 30”-33” wears a 24 months size.

Children's toddler sizes follow these dimensions: 28-30 lbs and 33”-35” wears a size 2T, a toddler child weighing 30-33 lbs and 35.5”-37” wears a size 3T, and finally, a toddler child weighing 33-35 lbs and 37”-38.5” wears a size 4T.

Girls’ child clothing sizes ranges from 4-6x while boys’ child clothing similarly ranges from size 4-7. Dimensions for children clothing sizes are: 35-38 lbs and 38.5”-40” is a size 4 for both girl and boy children, 39-42 lbs and 41”-43” is a size 5 for child girls and boys, 43-47 lbs and 43.5”-46” is a size 6 for child boys and girls, 47-53 lbs and 47”-48” is a 6x for girl children, and 54-57 lbs and 49”-51” is a size 7 for boy children.

Tips on how to measure your child for correct sizing:

We suggest you measure your child’s weight and height to ensure you buy the correct size, especially when buying designer clothing. Children grow at different rates in their childhood, so you can't buy a certain size for a child based on age only. It’s always safest to measure your child to insure the best fit for the clothing. If your child falls between two sizes, we think it best to purchase the larger size to allow for growing and normal shrinkage, as several of our outfits are made from soft cotton, some shrinkage may be expected. Again, every child is different, so measure before you buy to ensure a you buy the correct size for your child.
